Upcoming FetishMen Events for 2011

We're currently at 819 members on many different forms of social media, mostly on the email list.  I add more, every single day.

Check the upcoming events listing down below - I've added a lot of out-of-town events (let me know if I've missed any). Notably, the Up Your Alley/Dore Alley Street Fair event will NOT conflict with SD Pride this year. If you want to stay at a hotel at that time, now would be a good, inexpensive time to make a reservation.

I would like to acknowledge how majestic the men of our community have been, over and over again. When there's a fundraiser, or welcoming newbies to the group, or applauding young men who want to work on everybody's behalf, you have been superb and supportive. By doing so, you're investing in our community's future. Thank you. It really matters.

Speaking of our future, young men have been showing up a our events, and then coming back to later events. That is a powerful statement that not many men's groups can make. I believe that this is because the level of joyful brotherhood at every one of our events is attractive to all ages. Again, this is because of men like you, with big hearts and generous natures.

There are a LOT of plans being made that haven't been announced yet, but will be made public as soon as all of the ducks are in a row… a big play-party during Pride weekend, even bigger events in even bigger venues, a massive, exciting change to the dance-party, and San Diego parties in other cities during big out-of-town events. Current goals are extending outward at least four years into the future, at the moment.

-=-=-=-=- UPCOMING EVENTS -=-=-=-=-

Saturday, February 26th, 7PM: TRAVELING LEATHER BAR at Kickers. This month's theme is Cowboys and Kinksters, hosted by San Diego Gay Rodeo (GSGRA) and FetishMenSanDiego. Dance lessons, competitive games with fun prizes for contestants, and a crowd jammed with leathermen and cowboys. It's a great way to invite newbies to our brotherhood.

Sunday,  February 27th,  4PM-8PM: FETISHMEN DANCE at the Flame,  hosted by Papa Tony.  As friendly and joyful of a dance party as you'll ever encounter - Here are some reviews for you to enjoy.

Wednesday, March 2, 9PM: PUPPY NIGHT at the Eagle, hosted by Pup DragZ and San Diego Puppy Play (SDPP). First Wednesday of each month.

Friday, March 4, 7PM: SDLOG monthly educational meeting: Temporary Piercing - Presented by Mike Underwood and Bryan Teague,  American Leather Boy 2010,  Mr San Diego Leather 2009.

Sunday, March 6th, 5-8PM: CIGARS & BOOTS at Redwing, hosted by California LeatherSir Miles B. First Sunday of each month. It's ideal weather for it, out on the patio at Redwing. Unbelievably congenial crowd… Like nothing you've ever seen. The perfect Gentlemen's Club vibe. You'd think these men have been best friends for decades, and there's room for more, so come on over and mingle freely...

Friday, March 11, 9PM-1AM: DRESS IT UP/STRIP IT DOWN at the Eagle, hosted by Jerry A. and Josh J. This has become the biggest fetishmen event in San Diego every month!  Approximately 300 men come cycling through the bar during the course of this event on the second Friday of each month, and many of us are dressed (or undressed) to impress!  Here are a few reviews, if you haven't been to one yet.  This month's spotlight will be on Men In Kilts. You'll be encouraged to bring that kilt out of deep storage and wear it in public with manly pride! That'll definitely be worth a kick-ass group photo as well. Here are the pictures from October and February. Notice how HAPPY everybody is. You deserve to be that happy too.

There are two reasonably-local BIG fetishmen events near San Diego every year - LA Leather in late May and Palm Springs Leather Pride on the second weekend in November (to avoid the heat). These are both well-worth making travel plans for, even for a single day-trip. If you plan to behave in a very um, SINGLE sort of way, this is your golden opportunity!

April 16-17; Phoenix Pride

Saturday, April 25th, 7PM; TRAVELING LEATHER BAR at Flicks. They truly want us there, and this is a great opportunity for us to show what leathermen are all about - I bet we get a TON of new members that night!  More details later...

May 21-22; Long Beach Pride

- If you're going to International Mr. Leather 2011 weekend in late May in Chicago, NOW would be a really good time to make sure that your travel and lodging plans are completed.

June 10-12; Los Angeles Pride

June 25-26; San Francisco Pride

July 15-17, San Diego Pride

August looks pretty open, but September includes Vegas Pride and Folsom Street Fair. Then, Palm Springs Pride is followed by Palm Springs Leather Pride in November.

Warning - Protect Yourself

I'm hearing too many stories about men being drugged against their will in bars lately. It's best to protect yourself by 1) having friends keeping an eye on you, and 2) never leaving your drink unattended. It's a shame that sociopaths have to be part of our world. A good amount of the reason why I created a brotherhood system of trust and respect is in reaction to this sort of thing. People who would do something like this tend to avoid being well-known and visible.

Kane wins Mr. San Diego Eagle for 2011

Current and former Mr. San Diego Eagle titleholders, from left to right: Russ Mortenson (2007), David Palmer (2010), Kane (2011), Scott Moats (1996) and Mike Little (2008).

San Diego,  California,  February 19,  2011:

The San Diego Eagle was packed to capacity with leatherfolk,  in spite of the rainy weather outside. The crowd included visitors from Germany,  all over California and the Netherlands. They were all there to cheer on one of San Diego's longest-running traditions in our local leather community - The Mr. San Diego Eagle titleholder contest.

The fabulous Roxy was the evening's emcee. She charmed the crowd with her affectionate humor, and kept the timing of the event nice and tight, with the capable help of the event's producers.

She also made sure that the contestants had a quiet environment to share their visions for the future, during their ninety-second speeches. This wasn't hard to do,  because San Diego's leathermen have been unified in brotherhood for months now,  and attended this event in the spirit of support and Tribe. We just got rowdy AFTER the contest, when the lights went down!

The contest included the traditional elements:

 - Introducing the contestants in bar leather
 - Maximum skin on display while being interviewed onstage
 - The ninety-second speech

Contestants Kane and Pup Phoenix competed for the title,  and it was clearly a close race,  despite their nearly-opposite responses to the rapid-fire one-minute free-association question round, indicating their personal tastes in kink. It's amazing what you can learn about somebody in this fashion!

From left to right: First Runner-Up Pup Phoenix, and Mr. San Diego Eagle 2011 Kane.

The judges made their final decisions, the title was passed onward by many dedicated predecessors, the stage was disassembled, the crowd got extra-friendly, and the party went on through the night!

Now that the fuss is over, both Kane and Pup Phoenix are making plans to work closely with the Eagle's staff, creating new, exciting events that raise money for charity, build brotherhood (particularly between the generations) and bring on the next phase in our community's history. Their youth,  idealism and energy are what we need!

Both contestants are members of FetishMenSanDiego, as were approximately 80% of the audience that night. In fact, this event added enough new men to bring us to over 800 members! FMSD is the fastest-growing leathermen's group on earth, and the enrollment rate is increasing. The respect shown to the contestants during this event was not unusual,  because all FMSD events are generous in nature, with respect and brotherhood for all.

Reviews of DRESS IT UP/STRIP IT DOWN; February 2011

Friday's DRESS IT UP/STRIP IT DOWN event was our biggest event ever.  As Josh J. said to me when the event was at its peak, "It's nice to have QUALITY events, but it's really nice to have the QUANTITY, too!"  I'm guessing that we had around 300 men cycling into and around and out of the event during the four hours that I was there. HUGE numbers of us were in full gear, or in shirtless splendor (or less).  It reminded me of Wolfs or the Eagle, back around 1995 or so, or the Iron Spur around 1979.

Several people spoke hopefully about wanting to have the same event multiple times per month.  It could happen… I'd need a lot of feedback in order to make a decision, though.

I added dozens of new members during this event, so we're still the fastest-growing fetishmen's group on earth. San Diego's kinky community is doing really well right now, and we're improving constantly..

Last night's group picture is here, and the BIG version of the group picture is here. Those weren't fake smiles, either - The crowd was deliriously happy, and you could hear it in the tone of the conversations at full blast all night. We're starting to attract a lot of what I call "instigators" - Extroverted funsters who get the crowd all pleasantly riled-up. I really like that - We've all been too serious as a community for too long.

It's PLAY TIME!

-=-=-=-

WHAT a fantastic night. Men were dressed up and down, laughing, even talking to each other. We have finally seen what San Diego men have been craving for so long. Last night at the Eagle was not a Stand and Model event. Men genuinely greeted each other and strangers. I felt more welcome there last night than I have been in SD ever. It happened because everybody participated and the event took on a life of its own. Let's keep up the momentum.

Had a great time, as usual at FMSD events!  Lots of familiar faces and lots of new ones, too.  Great mix of leather, latex/neoprene and bare chests (and combinations thereof!)  Casual, sexy, fun.  What more could you ask for!

Upcoming Events For the Next Few Months

I don't ask for many personal favors in return for my handling things on this end, but I have one now:

Please make plans to show up and support the Mr. San Diego Eagle 2011 and Mr. San Diego Leather 2011 contests (details below). The men who are running for these titles are idealistic, fine and admirable, and they deserve a lot of love. They are each planning to help the rest of us in the years to come. Let's all cheer them on, with no holding back!

Titleholder season is upon us, and the next few months are going to be a rich opportunity for you to get connected to your community. If you plan to shop for fetish gear locally, here are some recommendations. Let's support our local vendors because they are a part of our community as well.

If you're going to be in the Los Angeles area, February 2011 is taken up with titleholder contests every weekend, ending up with the Mr. LA Leather contest on March 26th (see below).

Newest Inspiration... Your Thoughts?

I've been pondering about the next step in FetishMenSanDiego's evolution. I'm finally solidifying my thoughts, and giving my newest concept a name. I call it:

TRAVELING LEATHER BAR

Here's the idea:  Once a month, we head off to a non-leather bar and gather together for some fun… Drink specials, snacks, music and cruising. The difference is that the bar in question (say, Flicks, Richs, Eden, Kickers, The Hole, Pecs, Numbers, wherever) has had a chance to publicize the event beforehand for at least a month… posters inside the bar, sending the news out via their email list and Facebook, maybe even ads in the local gay papers, the whole thing. We've also told the hundreds and hundreds of our regular fetishmen, and everybody arrives in a big, happy crowd.

The men who will be showing up will know quite well what to expect, and they'll be there specifically to find out more about our group, or plans and our Tribal brotherhood. There will be drink specials, snacks, and fun ideas that will be unique to each location. We will be welcomed with gladness.

This idea accomplishes several things:

It's always great to have an excuse to get together. We're a jolly crew, and we know how to have fun.

It also attracts a crowd that we don't normally have access to, PARTICULARLY newbies who have been waiting to be invited to give in to their secret fantasies. When we did the earlier version of this concept at The Hole five days ago, we got 36 new members, and precious few of them have had extensive experience inside the scene. This is how we build our Tribe, by investing in the future of our community.

We're doing an upgraded version of the concept later this month:

Saturday, February 26th, 7PM: Cowboys and Kinksters at Kickers, hosted by San Diego Gay Rodeo (GSGRA) and FetishMenSanDiego. Dance lessons, competitive games with fun prizes for contestant, and a crowd jammed with leathermen and cowboys.

We will continue to follow along with the usual places and ways, and, once a month, we can also reach out and welcome our newest brothers to join us for better days together. Think of it as a combination of Membership Drive and recruiting for new talent!

The bars that I have approached have been INCREDIBLY receptive to the idea, much more so than anybody expected on either side of the negotiations.

So far, this is just the bare-bones, beginning version of the idea, but I am very emphatically convinced that it's a winner. The most-important point to make is, if we continue to do this, we will need EVERY single one of us to be Julie the Cruise Director, reaching out to the newbies and possible new fetishmen all around us. No shy clusterings of leathermen surrounded by people who don't know how to break through.  The friendlier, the more authentic and the more welcoming we are, the more we stand out in stark contrast to the usual "Internet Flake" standard of behavior we're all drowning in as a culture.

The payoff of doing the heavy recruiting we've done in the last seven months has been an enormous amount of new leaders, volunteers, events and ideas that benefit us all. FMSD has been attracting and KEEPING more and more young men who want to be respected as equals among us. This has not been the pattern for a lot of leathermen's clubs worldwide. Now, we can take our brotherhood out on the road and be the jolly men we love to be!

Please send me your thoughts at FetishMenSanDiego@gmail.com, and include some suggested venues. Let's build this into something big.

Upcoming Events

I'm very grateful to the men who showed up at the Hole on Sunday night to show support for our group - It was very impressive when everybody raised up a hoot and a holler to show their loyalty. The crowd seemed to like it, because the final tally was 36 new members!

February is going to be a busy month. This month kicks off Titleholder Season in San Diego, and I know at least six men who are strongly interested in stepping forward and getting serious about community-work on behalf of us all. If I have one request of everyone, it's to show strong support for the Mr. San Diego Eagle Meet and Greet and the contest itself, the following night (see below). These guys deserve our support and admiration, and we need new ideas, new energy and fresh idealism to get us all to better days. Let's stand shoulder-to-shoulder so that our brothers can stand on our shoulders!

Announcements haven't been made publicly yet, but there are a lot of plans that are new, big and surprising that are in the works. Lunches, coffees, phone-calls, emails, texts and other communications are happening nearly every day, so that FetishMenSanDiego's growth and success continue in a smooth and orderly fashion. You'll get the news as soon as each item is ready.
